4x4 Trucks

 4x4 Trucks
Fewer luxury-car and 4x4 thefts

After two years of an increase in car thefts, Ituran and Pointer, who provide vehicle tracking services, have reported a large drop in robberies of the hottest cars in the stolen vehicle market: Luxury cars and 4x4s.

Both companies' summaries of the first quarter of 2007 show that there has been a 57-72 percent plunge in the number of Mercedes, BMWs, and Audis stolen compared to the first quarter of 2006.

There has also been a decrease in 4x4 thefts, although the figures presented by both companies differ greatly; Pointer registered a 67 percent fall, while Ituran recorded 36 percent drop.

Although pick-up trucks are a common preference for car thieves, both companies also reported a drop in the number of trucks stolen.

New York Auto Show: 2008 HUMMER H3 Alpha

We can't wait to get our hands on the 2008 HUMMER H3 Alpha, because the other GM trucks we've driven that are equipped with the 5.3L V8 all make all the right sounds and pack the kind of punch you'd expect in a vehicle as butch-looking as the entry-level HUMMER. That probably won't happen 'till late summer, however, so we had to make do with an up-close inspection of one at the New York Auto Show in the meantime. The example on display at the Javits Center is a lightly accessorized version (note the grille guard and roof lights... those are not standard equipment) that looks great in that gray color, which also happens to be new for '08. Inside, it's no different than other loaded, Luxury Package-equipped H3s, save for the Alpha badge on the steering wheel and the embroidered Alpha insignias on the headrests.

Custom 2003 Dodge Ram 3500 - Sky-Scraper

Custom trucks come in all different ways and levels of modifications. Some have a few simple bolt-ons, while others have gone so far away from factory that they only have small sections left of the original truck. These trucks all start from a basic design, and it is up to the particular owners to do what they want to them. After deciding that you are going to go custom, it takes confidence to know that what you are doing will work. If you talk to anyone on the factory side, they will advise you to modify nothing but a license plate frame. But, if you are mechanically inclined or a have a reputable shop that you can trust to build your custom, then you have nothing to worry about.

For Dennis Stavinoha, his custom truck started with a need for something to drive on a regular basis to his construction job.

Truck Crash Temporarily Shuts Down Part Of Highway 401

A truck tractor was virtually demolished Sunday morning when it slammed head-on at full speed into the bullnose in the westbound transfer lanes on Highway 401 near Port Union Road.

The driver walked away with just minor injuries and police think fatigue may have played a role in the crash. A portion of the highway was temporarily shut down.

There's no word yet on possible charges and police are appealing for witnesses.

Toronto OPP officers are asking any witnesses to call (416) 235-4981.
